Hand and Paddle Signals.

As you know it is very difficult for river guides to communicate between each other on the river due to the noise of white water and so we use hand and paddle signals to communicate from one raft to another.

When giving a signal, you should blow your whistle once and then give the signal clearly. The person that you are giving the signal too, should reply you with the same signal if they understood well. The only time you should blow your whistle more than once is in a case of an emergency in which you blow your whistle three times.

The signals shown in this presentation are the international river signals, but when ever you are going to run a river with people that you do not know than you should have a quick check to see if you are all using the same signals.
